Italian architect and designer Mario Marenco brought an unusually broad perspective to twentieth-century design, working across architecture, furniture and industrial design. After graduating from the University of Naples in 1957, he undertook research in Stockholm and Chicago before establishing DEWG Studio in Rome in 1960. By 1970, his furniture work included collaborations with Arflex, Artemide, Bernini and B&B.

For Trove, Marenco's significance is closely connected to Arflex. His 1970 Marenco seating system has remained in production for more than five decades and is still central to the brand's collection. Its combination of generous cushioning, strong geometry and modularity feels remarkably contemporary despite being conceived in 1970.
